urpmi database locked?


Everytime i try to use urpmi now it says the database is locked, could anyone tell me what i'm doing wrong? I'm logging in as root when i use it.

Sorry if this is a "is it plugged in?" sort of reply, but my experience is that only one application can access your RPM database (of installed packages) at a time. If you start the software media manager, for example, and while it is running (idle) attempt a manual "urpmi" command, you'll get that message. (Of course, that might not be the only way to get that message. If you know a few things you can rule out, please post what you've tried... is this a curious annoyance or something causing real package problems?)

rpm does that from time to time. You can try deleting any lock files that may be using rpm exclusively. There is a command to do this but I forget. It usually happens most when your using rpm and "stop" it abruptly or by some other means.

Take a look in /tmp and delete any instances of rpm.
