Updating to Kernel 2.6, poweroff freezes computer

updating to kernel 2.6.x, i can't switch off the computer by poweroff,
which worked fine before.
I have a Dell Dimension XPS 700T with nothing extraordinary.
Also console blanking freezes the system.
Can anyone help?
I have searched all the mailing lists for hints but nothing found.

Best regards

I would check out your power management settings in the kernel. That is probably where your power off problem comes from. N ot sure why clearing the console would cause a problem though.
