Hello and welcome to LinuxQuestions,

By using the 'Update Manager' in the Administration menu I assume? Looking forward to your participation in the forums.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

Version 11.04 of Ubuntu is (AFAIK) still in alpha or beta phase and is not considered stable. It'll be the next release (due in April 2011). You're likely to experience troubles/bugs/failures with a system that's not released as stable. If you don't have the experience to solve problems with Linux, then I'd advice you to stick with the latest stable release, you'll get a lot more support for that one as a newbie. There's no 'update' available for 11.04 in my opinion since it's the 'next' release to come out. If you're referring to updating packages then you can use the Update manager I referred to (if that still exists in 11.04, haven't seen nor used it). If you don't find the Update manager then you can always use the command line to check if updates for your installed software is available.

To synchronize:
Code:
sudo apt-get update
To apply detected newer versions of packages:
Code:
sudo apt-get upgrade
Since 11.04 is not stable yet you can expect your system to 'break' so be prepared with a good backup of your important data.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hi,

Just 'dotting the i', but going from 10.10 to 11.04 is a change in major version and thus in my opinion an upgrade instead of update.

Kind regards,

Eric
