update parts of gnome 2.2 to 2.4.

Hi, im not new to linux, but am very new to gnome (as of this morning i used iceWM and nothing but icewm) now i have gnome 2.2 installed (it came with my distro)
but i love the look of gnome 2.4.

is it possible to update the parts of gnome that controll the window decorations, and things like that (background ect) while keeping the other parts of gnome.

if so, what parts should source packages should i compile from ?
im using a 56k modem, so download size in an issue.
