uninstalling programs

Hi
Can anyone please tell me the correct way to uninstall programs on linux mint 1.9 please?

Like on windows you would go into the control panel

A web search for "uninstall applications mint" led me to this.

Open the Software Center and look for the program you want to uninstall and click uninstall.

I dont know where the software manager or the go application is or anything!
i never take any notice to that wikihow thing program anyway

Left click on the far left in the task bar to look for it.
