Uninstalling Pengaol

Hi, I recently installed peng (version peng1.0a01.tar.gz) but had trouble initalizing the modem. (The modem would sound like it was connecting and loading, but I would get an initalizing modem error after a little). Searching the webpage for an answer to this it looks like using penggy is recommended. I want to try this, but I think that I need to uninstall my peng stuff, but I'm not sure how. Also, I have the rpm version of penggy and I want to use it but double clicking on rpms and letting them "update the system" doesn't seem to do anything (was doing it mostly with alsa and xmms), is there something I'm missing or a better way to install the packages? I'm using redhat 9 as a note. Thank you for your time.
