Arrow Uninstall Windows X & performance enhancement

Hello,everyone.

My RedHat 8.0 server is pretty slow (See below for my PC specification),no matter web, file or mail server. So I would like to uninstall windows X and see how it's gonna enhance a little bit of the server performance.

My question is that is my server going to work greater than before?Or just "A little bit."If the performance is going to be great, then how can I uninstall Windows X?Showing steps is appreciated!

Thanks.

What do you mean by slow? I have a Pentium 100 MHz box acting as a router/firewall and I use it for file serving and developping php/mysql also. The response time with php is obviously slow as the complexity of apps and databases grow. Routing is always fast. Networking is as fast as network can allow it to be (home 10 Mbps).

The easiest thing to do on this box is to boot it in runlevel 3 (/etc/inittab) and not to uninstall anything. In runlevel 3, neither X, KDE nor Gnome will run, saving precious memory. You still can run X on this box and display them remotely by running the Xvfb daemon on the box.

Of course you can risk yourself to remove X, KDE and Gnome from this box, but you may as well consider reinstalling it as a server install instead of a workstation or full.

Thumbs up Faster!!!!!!!!

Thanks, futhark. After starting with multiuser mode,my server performance is increasing about 20%.I use the server as a web & mail server. And I tried webmail and see how it improves. The webmail obviously runs faster than before.I think without running WindowsX can really save a lot of resources.

Thanks again.
