my system has fedora 4. now i am unable to boot my system. what all i see is a grub command line. tried to install fedora 7 on it but failed. so how can i install fedora 7 over this from live cd. or can i recover my system back.

When the system begins to load at the grub splash screen hit a key eg: spacebar and see if there is another kernel to boot from and select it.

You could also try entering at the command line.
Did you do anything like update packages or install any new programs. I'm assuming you had a FC4 working installation to start with.

As long as you haven't overwritten any files or partitions you should be able to recover any important data. If you were installing F7 at what point did the install fail?

This should be in the Fedora Forum to get more exposure as it is a Fedora specific problem.

thanks for your reply. all was fine when i started installing it. it failed after saying loading kernel image. i did not 0verwrite any files. after failing it worked once when i boot it removing cmos battery. and then i tried to install fc 7 but could not.
