I have just recently installed uw-imap. I keep getting -ERR Bad login everytime I try to fetch my mail. I compiled the software with command line

make lnp "SSLTYPE=none"

I cannot understand why it will not authinicate correctly. In my /var/log/messages, it simply states the login failed. I've even attempted to add the "PASSWDTYPE=pam" to allow for clear text to be used to login, thinking that could be a problem.

Has anyone had similar issues? Thanks!

btw, I'm using the pop3 daemon at the moment. I assume I am going to have the same issues when I try out the imap daemon...

I have finally figured it out, but I don't really understand how.

If anyone else has this problem in the future look here .

By adding this little piece of code

auth       	required     /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so shadow nullok
account    	required     /lib/security/pam_pwdb.so

to a file called /etc/pam.d/pop, it worked right away. If anyone know's why this is, let me know so I can have a future reference! Thanks!!!
