how to troubleshoot kernel freeze problem?
my PC freezes randomly, there is no issue in the logs, Alt+SysRq+? does not print anything.. what is the usual way to troubleshoot issues like this?
I'm using Debian unstable on 2.6.12 or 2.6.14 built by myself
thanks
do a "dmesg" to see possible errors, also take a look to /var/log/messages file for info. In general, a good starting point is to look into the /var/log directory, where all the system logs are stored.

What makes you think its the kernel freezeing your system and not hardware, heat,or user error?
When your computer freezes. Does the keyboard/mouse still respond, e.g. can you press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart or do you have to use the power button?
Also do you have any spare computers around. For instance, if you can swap the hard disk with another O/S on it into this problem machine, and it still freezes, then you know for sure it's a hardware problem.
In my experience the most common reasons for PCs to crash is RAM going bad.
There is a utility that runs in Linux to test your RAM if it's going bad, I think it's called "badram" but I can't remember exactly. If you can find it, this would rule that out.
