this has happened before and i dont know how i fixed it. i have this old laptop that im trying to put linux on. its a winbook xl. im putting vectorlinux 3.2 on it. i can get through the installation ok but i cant configure a mouse correctly. i have a realy realy OLD microsoft serial mouse. its the only one i can get to work but it has a short in the cable (annoying). when in sax it wants to start the x server to test the settings. i click ok and another screen shows up. the serial mouse no longer works and the touchpad jumps around franticaly when i try to use it.

i want to get the touchpad working fully and all the time. i dont think there was a driver for it in the list though. what do i do? which driver should i use? would a newer version of vectorlinux run on such a crappy pc?

i tried to install vectorlinux 4.3. it sort of worked but at the end of the install section i couldn't configure anything except networking stuff. i restarted and it wouldn't boot. i think 3.2 is the way to go on this but i still have that problem with the mouse. any other distro suggestions are always welcome. just realize the hardware im working with.

please someone answer me... i need help.
