Angry Trouble installing xmule!

I am very new to Linux (red hat 9)

I have just managed to get on line with my internal adsl pci modem!!! Hoorah!!!

But now after years of using Microsoft shit I am unable to get my head around the Linux terminal, I know how to use dos and some commands that I am used too do work. Sadly this is where my know-how ends......

I am now trying to install xmule 1.6.1 and I am getting nowhere fast!

I am going to need a step by step walk through if possible.

I will check this thread tomorrow at 9:30am GMT time. I cant before then as I will be busy. I really hope someone will be able to help me get used to the commands etc... used in Linux as I really do NOT want to go back to shitty Microshit Xp..ants, as I am fed up of it and the last straw was that annoying blaster virus.

Yours Hopefully

Mike.

1.6.1 is a mandrake rpm which may not work in red hat. 1.4.0 may be a red hat rpm. If you're comfortable with it, you could compile it. Get a source gz or bz package and extract it to a directory. The directory depends on how red hat is set up. (I don't use red hat) Then open a console and do this:

cd (installation directory)
./configure
su
(root password)
make
make install
make clean

This will work in most cases. Check the readme first, there may be special instructions. If there is no 'configure' file, check the readme most carefully because my method won't work. It's not supposed to happen but sometimes you need to log in as root to compile certain programs. At least, I do.
