Totally screwed up!

Hi.
I installed gnome-system-tools today, thought I should check it out. Problem is users-admin totally screwed up. Suddenly both my /etc/passwd and my /etc/shadow were totally gone. I have succeeded to get the root user back (pure luck, I had root logged in to a terminal and could do an useradd). However the directory /root is totally gone.

My biggest problem right now seems to be:

1. My rpm database is totally gone. The command rpm -qa outputs nothing. rpm with argument --rebuilddb or --initdb does nothing. How the heck do I get this back?

2. All other users are gone. How do I know which users to put there? For example cups refuses to start because the user lp is gone, I now there were quite many more users there...

3. I don't know if I'm brave enough to turn my computer off. I don't know if I will be able to start Linux up again...

Someone, please help!

/Daniel

Yeah, I'd think a reinstall would be the best route here. Backup your critical data... ie mp3s, vids, etc. At least thats the critical data I backup each time I reinstall
