Hello
Is there a way to auto-detect the top bar?

You need to explain exactly what you are asking. Try describing what you are trying to do.

Would you like a drink? I'm sure the top bar can serve all your needs.

As I wrote. Hiding (auto) top bar.
In the open window of a certain program, it covers the top line of this program.

there is no program opened in the screenshot.

anyhow, it's the programs task to detect the top bar and not cover it.
have you tried maximizing the program's window?

That looks like Ubuntu with the Unity desktop. I believe that the default behavior of the Unity desktop is to open programs maximized and turn the top bar (panel in Linux) into the menu bar for the program that's in focus (on top); it's Mac-like behavior.

If you resize the program window down, you should be able to uncover the top panel and release it from serving as the program menu bar, and, in my experience, the program will remember its state when it's opened again, but I don't use Ubuntu very often and might be mistaken.

There might be something in the setting you could adjust, but I don't think there is, at least with Unity.

Thank You for your answer.
As in the topic - as a rule. Is it possible to automatically hide the top bar on your desktop. The sidebar automatically opens when you hover over it with your mouse. I thought it was possible with the upper stripe.

You are welcome.

So much of this sort of stuff depends on the individual desktop environment. Many DEs have a setting to allow or not allow application windows to cover the panel.

Instead of bar, the magic keyword seems to be: panel (or menu)

Hi again; since I 'hit a home run' on your other thread, I clicked Username, find more posts by
And tried my DDGoo-fu (as in kung-fu) since I'm just learning GUI &got:

Might be useful, tho a semi-no-simple-way answer. And (if related) Ubu dropped Unity anyway.
Anyways, best wishes; enjoy Linux (&someday, VirtualBox on it, with a mll Slack* in it)
