Hi all,
I just discovered and solved an issue with roaming profiles I would like to share with you all. It has cost me several weeks of testing and tweaking and now it is finally solved.
Installation:
VMware Server 1.0.1-29996
Fedora Core 6 (VMware host OS)
Windows XP Pro (VMware guest OS)
Samba configured as a PDC
Problem:
Roaming profiles write ok, read fails. In fact it hangs for a while and then starts up with a temporary profile.
Error message in Samba logfile:
read_data: read failure for 4 bytes to client xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. Error = Connection reset by peer
Error message in Windows XP:
Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.
Solution:
Network connection setting in VMware "causes" the problem.
If it is set to "BRIDGED", it doesn't work.
If it is set to "NAT", it works smoothly.
Hope it saves some people some serious headeaches.
