xp pro can not logon samba PDC

hey ,all :
I am config the samba server for small home office, after I edit the smb.conf . the windows explorer can browser the share folder in linux .
I used the smbpasswd -a username to add the xp pro netbios name and logon user name into the linux system,
I stop the linux firewall , I logon the PDC from xp pro , it promt a user name and password windows , I use the samba user name and password, the result is " the user name could not be found.

any body can help me ? thankyou

unless i'm wrong, it's not enough to just add the user with smbpasswd. you also have to create a system user account. that might be the problem. you can do that with adduser, using /dev/null for the home directory.

You should 've used the following command to add the user: smbpasswd -m -a username

Since the machines that you join to the domain are called "machine accounts", the -m switch tells smbpasswd to add a machine account. The above command will not prompt you for a password.
