Thunderbird: messages not listed in / dissappeared from inbox folder.

Using Thunderbird 60.6.1 under Debian 10

After deleting duplicated files in my computer with a fdupes script, I found out that one of my thunderbird inbox folders has been damaged: only a bunch of older messages show up, but everything from a given date onwards has disappeared.

The actual emails seem to be there, though, as they show up in a search. They just are not listed in the inbox.

Apparently the Inbox is the only affected folder.

Thinks that I have tried:

• Repairing the inbox folder, following this: https://www.lifewire.com/repair-fold...erbird-1173102
• Deleting the inbox.msf file
• Deleting foldertree.json xulstore.json Virtualfolders.dat Localstore.rdf panacea.dat following this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/qu...#answer-852588

Still no results, no more google clues and no idea about what is happening.

Help welcome, please.

Thanks.

do you use IMAP?

if so, you can simply recreate your borked account:
Code:
cd
mv .thunderbird .thunderbird-old
now restart thunderbird and recreate your account.

all your messages and mails are on the remote server anyhow.

and be more careful with agressively removing "unneeded" files in the future.

Solved the mystery a while ago, but forgot to post here the solution for the record. Here it goes:

The folder with the problem had (among other things irrelevant to the issue):

* A subfolder named "inbox.bsd" containing the actual stuff.
* A file named "inbox.msf"

Checking the log of the fdupes script I found out that it had deleted a lot of 0-byte files, among them one named "inbox".

The backup copy from some weeks ago had a 0-byte file with that name.

So I exited Thunderbird, created an empty text file with that name and restarted Thunderbird. Voilą.
