Post The Unofficial Official Gimp 2.6.x Thread

This thread is for discussing problems, issues, annoyances, and anything else you want to post about the new Gimp, 2.6.x. Bugs should probably be submitted directly to the project. But if you have some other issue or complaint, post it here and perhaps after a while it will be a good reference for the developers. I'll start:

When you open Gimp 2.6.x, it now opens an annoying blank window that you can't get rid of. All the menu functions from the tool palette have been moved onto this new window. I'm still undecided on whether this interrupts the workflow by having to go from the palette to the menu, or whether it's ultimately better having the menu items on the image workspace. But having the blank window there is definitely annoying, and having a big chunk of blank space on the tool palette where the menu items used to be is ugly. The faint gimp face they have there now is very distracting. There must be a better solution.

<edit: just found the option to stop the dialogs from being always on top. I think that should be disabled by default. Calling it a "window manager hint" doesn't really help the user find the option, either, and doesn't really have much relevant meaning. Why not label it what it is: Dialogs Always on top, or Not Always on Top, and put it in the Interface section -- since it relates to the interface and not to the window manager, which most people associate with their actual.... window manager! "Window manager hint" is meaningless to me -- I just had to kind of guess that might have something to do with the AOT behavior from seeing the On top option, and found out by testing what it does. "Utility window" and "normal window" don't really tell me anything, either - kind of confusing.>

That's about it for now. I've noticed when cropping an image it doesn't seem to crop on screen, but I don't know if that's a bug yet or a problem with my video card or drivers.

FWIW I love the new menu layout, I even like the blank window: it just "make sense" to me that way, and the previous way never made any sense. Generally I think 2.6 is a vast improvement over 2.4.

The one thing that bugs me is the silly gimp logo and wasted space where the menu used to be at the top of the tool palette. But for me thats just a cosmetic issue and doesn't really cause any problems.
