The Case of The Missing GIMP Tooltips

I noticed a few days ago--as I was beginning a marathon scanning session-- that none of the tooltips in The GIMP (v2.8.16) are visible. All I get is a empty white box where the text should be.

As far as I've been able to determine, The GIMP is the only application that's not showing tooltips. The are enabled in The GIMP's preferences. I'm using the default theme for The GIMP.

Any ideas where they could be getting turned off?

TIA...

It's not the gimp that's at fault. It is clearly trying to display the tooltips.

You don't say what desktop you are using but there are reports of white-on-white tooltips when the gimp is run on KDE desktops.

Dang. That is the desktop I'm using. Some experimentation with the settings in "Configure Desktop" -> "Application Appearance" resulted in a combination that got The GIMP's tooltips back. Let's call this one solved.
