The Case of The Missing GIMP Tooltips
I noticed a few days ago--as I was beginning a marathon scanning session-- that none of the tooltips in The GIMP (v2.8.16) are visible. All I get is a empty white box where the text should be.
As far as I've been able to determine, The GIMP is the only application that's not showing tooltips. The are enabled in The GIMP's preferences. I'm using the default theme for The GIMP.

Dang. That is the desktop I'm using. Some experimentation with the settings in "Configure Desktop" -> "Application Appearance" resulted in a combination that got The GIMP's tooltips back. Let's call this one solved.
