Unhappy telnet

i'm not sure if this is the right place to be asking this but i need help and can't find it.....

i am running through windows xp and when i try to connect to another computer through TELNET it gives me a blank screen with just a cursor. then it says "connection to host lost." i've tried tons of different ports and i get the same thing.

please help

Welcome to LQ.

Make sure you have installed telnet and don't have any firewall rules that maybe blocking port 22. Personnaly I would reccomend using ssh, not telnet. ssh stands for secure shell and it encrypts data over the network. You can optain an ssh server from:
http://www.openssh.org

If you need a windwos client try:
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/
