Lightbulb .tar.bz file help !!! please !!!

Hi ,

I am new to Linux, but I have read many books on linux and was just wondering how do you compile and run a .tar.bz zip file ? I understand how to decompress and unzip but how do you compile and run the .run file that you unzipped .... ??

Thanks ,

If the tar.bz contains source usually:
./configure
make
make install

to compile the program and install it (to the default location)

".run file" ?? u mean the binary you just installed??

Also tar.bz isnt zip

Also, once you decompress the archive, make sure to check out any README for any subtle variations that you might need to consider. Most programs will also have an INSTALL text that will walk you through the specifics for that particular app.
