Smile System speaker doesnt play

My machine is HP Compaq dc7600 small form factor.

I resently installed Debian etch on my machine.

But the system doesnt play its system speaker. When i connect an external speaker to the headphone jack, it plays very well.
The system speaker plays well in the Windows environment.

What should i do to make the machine play its system speaker???

Have you tried opening up your sound mixer and making sure everything is not muted / volume turned too low?

The kernel module, pcspkr, is probably not loaded or not compiled. Try modprobing it. If modprobe can't find it you'll have to build it.
