System speaker doesnt play

My machine is HP Compaq dc7600 small form factor.

I resently installed Debian etch on my machine.

But the system doesnt play its system speaker. When i connect an external speaker to the headphone jack, it plays very well.
The system speaker plays well in the Windows environment.

What should i do to make the machine play its system speaker???:(

Have you tried opening up your sound mixer and making sure everything is not muted / volume turned too low?

dracolich 06-21-2007 08:26 AM

The kernel module, pcspkr, is probably not loaded or not compiled. Try modprobing it. If modprobe can't find it you'll have to build it.

Thanx to all for your replys...
As you said tredeger, I tried my alsamixer.
And it was muted. I made it unmute, and it plays well.
Thanx

I more question dracolich, I dont understand 'modprobing'. Will you please make it clear to me. Thanx
