I have the same problem running Wolfenstein:Enemy Territory.
My sound works fine with everything else.
I've logged in as root to run the game, so surely it can't be permissions?
Again I'm running SUSE 8.2
Any ideas?

OK! I've sorted it!
prior to running the game, go to a command line and type in:
artsshell terminate
game then runs fine with full sound for me. Dunno how you restart artsshell afterwards though?
What is artsshell anyway?

What are guys using to run Quake3 and Wolfenstein? Are there linux binaries for those? If so, are they free, and where can I find them?

Enemy Territory is free and there is a linux binary. I got my copy from jetstreamgames.co.nz .
I had no so sound on Enemy Territory at first either, until I added myself to the group 'sys'.

The .run will be fine, after that you should be able to download the maps from whatever server is running hem.
