Quake 3 in SuSE 9.1

Hi,

I have downloaded and installed the Quake Point release 1.32 for linux (filename linuxq3apoint-1.32.x86.run)

Ive copied pak0.pk3 and q3config.cfg over from the CD. However when I run the game from the user acount I just get my screen res changed to 800x600 and nothing hapens. If I run as root, I get an error message stating that Q3 couldn't load the OpenGL drivers.

I have the latest NVIDIA rpm installed through YOU online update. I couldnt see the relevant lines in XF86config that I have seen mentioned :

Quote:
(3) Now you have to edit the XF86Config file:

Replace the line:

Driver "nv" (or Driver "vesa")

with

Driver "nvidia"

Remove the following lines in the module section:

Load "dri"
Load "GLcore"

Make sure you have the following line in the module section:

Load "glx"
I have found the config file, changed nv to nvidia, load "glx" was already there, the other two loads were not. Still doesnt run tho.

Don't know how much help it'll be, but in my Mandrake 10 distro I have both of these:
/etc/X11/XF86Config
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4

The XF86Config-4 is the one that my computer uses to load X... maybe this will help...

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I only have the one config file, and the second suggestion didnt work. There is definitely something up with the OpenGL.

SOLVED!

It seems I had two NVIDIA drivers on the system, I went into command line mode and tried to install the latest NVIDIA driver from the .run file not thru YOU/YAST2.

This uninstalled 2 instances of the NVIDIA driver before failing to install itself. I then Re-ran YOU/YAST2 and imediately noticed a change. When KDE starts I get a fullscreen NVIDIA splash just before login.

A quick upgrade to point release 1.32b and even my mouse works. Thanks all for the suggestions. What a cracking little forum.
