Startup problem of an Application after backup and restore activity

Background:

A full backup and restore activity was done to a single server with (app/db) combination. Application server software is Fujitsu Interstage. DB server software is Fujitsu Systemwalker. A full backup was made using Symantec Netbackup server and another full backup was made using tar utility to tape. All files under / was deleted. In restoration, OS files and directories was restored using tar from tape and app/db files and directories was restored using netbackup.

Problem:

OS successfully booted and Fujitsu Interstage started normally but Fujitsu Systemwalker startup is incomplete. Not all of its services executed normally. It throws error messages that it cannot find its binaries. I tried checking the existence of the said binaries and its libraries and they all exist.

What we have done so far (still failed):

1. Restore all from Tape
2. Restore all from Netbackup
3. Rebooted several times
4. No result in running lsof in querying binary names

Questions:

Is there any commands to use to find clues?
Is there any files and directories that needs to be cleared or deleted?

Other option:

Worst case is we will reinstall Systemwalker but we don't like doing this as configuration is complicated and we need to prove to the client that we can fully restore the server using either netbackup or tar.

Are you saying you backed up a live database and after restoring the DB the application is not happy with the restored database files?

Even I don't know systemwalker it does not surprise me. Unless special measures are taken DB don't just start after the binaries are restored.

Either you back the DB files when the application is stopped, or you use a special database dump application to create DB backup in a controlled manner.
