hi,

i am trying to get squirrel mail working as my webmail client on my server.

i can access the squirrel mail login page with no probs ( http://berrancenetworks.co.uk/webmail ) but when try to login i get an error message saying it cannot connect to my imap server! i am not sure if there is an imap server running on my server or not as i get confused on what they call them but what i do no is that i have sendmail on my system is that just a smtp server? or does it do imap? i can access my user mail through webmin so i can send and receive mail on my server so i thought there would have been an imap server running or a pop3.

i have changed numerous settings using the configure script for squirrel mail, i have set it to use my local network IP addresses so that it might work on my intranet but it still doesn't work and i tried the actual DNS name to my server but no look ther aswell.

my server is running slackware 10 if this helps any

this is my first time at getting a mail server running in linux so bare with me, i have done it in win2k server loads of times though before i converted so its still just a transitional thing i think with me.

any help will be much appreciated thanks

if this is because i havent got in imap server running can any one tell me what is a good imap server to install and use?

your imap daemon must be running, otherwise SM cannot connect to your mailbox!
don´t know which imap server comes with slackware 10,
but i have good experiences with cyrus or dovecot (in combination with squirrelmail).
