Squid Installation on Red Hat 9.0

Dear All,

I am trying to install squid “squid-2.5.STABLE7.tar.gz” downloaded from squid-cache on redhat linux 9.0.
Below are the steps that I’ve taken to install the squid:-

tar -xvzf squid-2.STABLE7.tar.gz
cd squid -*
./configure
make
make install

After this step, I did amended the “squid.conf” to add the 2 lines follows:-
http_port 8080
visible_hostname “my server name”
unique_hostname “my server name”

After these steps, I executed the command below
/usr/local/squid/sbin/squid -z

and the server returns the error as follows:-

FATAL : Could not determine fully qualified hostname. Please set “visible_hostname”

Squid cache (version 2.5 stable1): Terminated Abnormally
CPU usges : 0.020 Seconds = 0.000 user + 0.020 sys
Maximum Resident size: 0 KB
page faults with physical i/o : 402
Aborted.

Can someone help me or tell me where can I find the solution to this problem?

Thanks

FATAL : Could not determine fully qualified hostname. Please set “visible_hostname”

this error shows that u havent specify the hostname in the squid.conf file...put your hostname other then localhostand try to restart the squid
