Special Error: Applications crash when I select text (GTK+)

Something must have gone wrong when I emerged GTK+-1.2 on my Gentoo system. When I start an application using gtk+-1.2 (xmms or dvdrip for example) everything works just fine until I try to mark text in a textbox. When I do this, the program just exits without any error message. When I start the application from a console window I get the following error:

Gdk-ERROR **: file gdkselection.c: line 331 (gdk_string_to_compound_text): assertion failed: (property.encoding == gdk_atom_intern ("COMPOUND_TEXT", FALSE) && property.format == 8)
aborting...

I already tried to recompile gtk+ in a different version (1.2.10-r11, it used to be 1.2.10-r10) but it didn't help. What else could I do?

that looks like an error or typo in the code, you might check some of the fixes relating to the application or libs of GTK+.

And, just install a less newer version if it works.

file gdkselection.c: line 331 (gdk_string_to_compound_text): assertion failed: (property.encoding == gdk_atom_intern ("COMPOUND_TEXT", FALSE) && property.format == 8)

sift through gdkselection.c at line 331, and see if you can locate a visible typo, from the relation of the error.
