Question spam assassin errors

Feb 27 18:54:50 bayardis01 spampd[13620]: auto-whitelist: open of auto-whitelist file failed: locker: safe_lock: cannot create tmp lockfile //.spamassassin/auto-whitelist.lock.bayardis01.vm.bytemark.co.uk.13620 for //.spamassassin/auto-whitelist.lock: Permission denied

Feb 27 18:41:15 bayardis01 spampd[13731]: WARNING!! Error in process_request eval block: Child server process timed out!

If anyone could help me figure out what's going on with these errors I'd be grateful. I can't figure out why the lock file is //.spamassassin instead of /root/.spamassassin and I haven't even a clue what the 2nd one is about.

I am running Debian etch.
