sounds issues now that i am running i486 vs amd64

system specs:

Asus A8N-SLI Premium MB
AMD X2 3800+
2x MSI Nvidia NX7600GS 256M PCI-e SLI configured vid cards
2G PC3200 ram
sATA HDD
DVD Burner internal
DVD Burner USB 2.0 external

My issues is the following:

i started with debian etch amd64 vs due to my CPU being able to handle it so i figured id give it a try. i had a few issues that made me choose to come back to the ix86 line for debian etch.

1. SLI performance was pathetic. between 5k - 6k FPS with glxgears WITH SLI properly configured via the nvidia-xconfig tool and commands.

2. multimedia support does not exsist for amd64 (yes there are a few things that support it, but not enough to make it worth my time to NOT HAVE access to flash, DVDs, etc...)

3. not willing to run a chroot setup to deal with the lack of amd64 support from popular applications

now last night i formatted and installed the ix86 vs of debian etch and have the system back to were it was under amd64 (love how fast and easy debian is to setup now that i have a semi clue what im doing in that area)

under amd64 my sound worked GREAT. first time i started up KDE no sound, but open kmix make a few adjustments and poof there is my sound. under ix86, i get the following ERROR and have zero sound:

issues with this setup:

1. no audio. this is a biggy
2. still pathetic FPS with SLI configured:

Please help with the lack of sound, and the pathetic FPS under linux.

after adding bzip2 and tar xvfj i got a typical long string of files, next step is the turn on sound support??? no clue how do to this, and no clue were to go for step 3 - 4:

This is about kernel sound support, presumably it is "turned on by default" unless you compiled the kernel yourself and left it out.

What you cannot understand about 3 and 4?
3 is how you build and install it.
4 means you need to add your freshly cooked module to a config file to get it loaded at boot.

Tip: Use bash autocompletion with TAB key and your paths/filenames will be always correct.
