I just not sure how titling the screen would change videos cut off you experienced. Unless the monitor itself has some kind of short circuit somewhere.

But the VLC window text was fine so I'd probably rule out a monitor issue.

I've noticed the cropped anomaly again today. Again, VLC did not have the issue.

Could be a problem of windowmanager/media player cooperation.

Which wm? And how do you achieve the tiling?

Out of curiosity, does this also happen with plain mpv? Because I have never seen this and I often use 50% tiling as seen in your screenshots.

Code:
wmctrl -m
Code:
Name: Metacity (Marco)
I use the native MATE builtin tiling feature.

I just tried that last video again - now it's showing fine in Celluloid. I'll try to remember to try mpv if the issue returns.

This is extremely odd. I'll have to await the phantom anomaly to return.

The issue is back today. I can confirm that mpv is ok - Celluloid seems to be the only video player that's affected.

Its odd that celluloid front-end has a video issue and MPV does not. below is a list of front ends to MPV but with Debian it will not be easy to install them.

It could also have something to do with the window manager if it doesn't properly report changed window size to the application.

Interesting. What would be a safe way to try another wm without screwing things up?

I wonder if this info has any relevance:

Code:
wmctrl -m
Name: Metacity (Marco)
Class: N/A
PID: N/A
Window manager's "showing the desktop" mode: OFF

I installed a few wms - metacity, xfwm4, etc. If the odd cut off text happens again in Celluloid with the Marco wm -- I'll run something like:
Code:
metacity --replace
and see if the issues goes away.

I just noticed the issue again. I ran the "--replace" command like above with metacity & xfwm4 -- the issue was still there. Hmmm. 🤔

Lightbulb

The next time this issue occurs, I'll rename ~/.config/celluloid to ~/.config/celluloid.old and see if a fresh config fixes it.
