Software for handling generic media devices.

Hello,

I recently bought a iAudio X5 media player, so I wanted to test it under Linux. It can be mounted as mass storage device and transferring music can be done by just copying files to the device.

I discovered a neat feature in Amarok that makes transferring music even easier and handier. You can configure Amarok to move music to a specific directory and make directories for each artist and sub-directories for each album. It also renames the songs as "<track_number>. <title>". This makes it easy to navigate through files in the device.

Now for the question: Are there any applications that are made to transfer music between computer and (generic) media device and have similar features as the Amarok's media device feature? Preferably a desktop environment independent application.
