Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

usb generic devices and recognition

Hello,

I would like to know whether generic usb devices are recognized easily with linux.
I am expecting to buy a keyboard a mouse and a hub, using these on my laptop (an inspiron i5150 from Dell). My laptop has only 2 usb ports, and thus I have to use a hub in order to use a keyboard a mouse and my printer.
Can somebody advise me about this ?

I ask you this because I didn't have any problem with a generic PCI USB/Firewire combo card I installed on my old desktop with RH9. But I don't know much about problems I could encounter.

Cheers, Xround.

could go either way,
most usb hubs i've tried in slackware, under 2.4.20 2.4.22 and 2.6.0-test11 kernels have worked fine, and HID devices the same..

I have a logitech Mouse and Keyboard Wireless combo and they are USB and they work great. So I would think general things are easy. My problem is pen drives.
