Never tried it, but have you looked at QuteCom? Looking at the name, it may be a Qt app though. Ekiga may be the alternative you are after, and it should be already in the repos.
Hi there, I realize that most probably what I want does not exist given that Skype's protocol is closed, but still the question remains for a skype client. QuteCom and Ekiga are both SIP clients, I use them both and I'm quite happy with Ekiga as my SIP client, but some of my contacts will only use Skype and I hate to have to either boot into other OS or install all of the QT libraries in my system just to use Skype.
