I am having this issue with skype 4.2 in ubuntu 12.4.2 64 bit. it crashes as soon as i get an IM. My laptop is a dell vostro 2520 with core 15 3rd gen processor. 8 gb of ram, intel 4000 graphics. the output of 'lspci' is as follows:

It might help to run skype from the command line and see if any information can be gleaned when it crashes. It should complain about something. I assume you have the multiarch packages installed.
