Setting Bash Screen Scrollback Length? (Shift + Page Up)

I know I've come across this before, but recently when I've looked I couldn't find how to set the length of text you can scroll back through on the console by pressing Shift + Page Up.

This has nothing to do with bash and everything to do with what terminal you are using. For example xterm and the linux terminal have different methods.
