Hi all,

I installed Squid successfully. I used webmin to administer squid.

I am wondering how do I know if squid is running? I ask this because when I go into
/etc/rc.d/init.d and typed service squid.init start it seems ok but when I typed service squid.init stop it says [failed].

Below is what happened:

[root@matrix ~]# service squid.init start
Starting squid:
[root@matrix ~]# service squid.init stop
Shutting down squid [FAILED]

On webmin, there is a tab button for start squid, but no stop button for stop squid. Is that normal?

just check your process list like with some system monitor for squid to see if it's running.
or if you can connect to it it's running fine

my system can stop squid fine but for me privoxy fails to stop like that each and every time
to the point where i just stopped calling the shutdown script so i didn't have to look at the red [FAILED]
and my avmailgate will fail to stop like that every now and then

it's just a shutdown script failure really and may be related to permissions
it's not a big deal
when the system shuts down the program "init" init automatically cleans up and kills off all it's still running children
