scrolling in terminal using vim, less, and more

How do you enable scrolling in vim, less, and more when using a terminal? To be specific, I'm using gnome-terminal in RHEL 5.5. Scrolling through the backlog works fine, it's just when I open a file with vim or do something using less or more that it doesn't work.

I just switched over from Fedora where it was working fine and I can't figure out what the difference is. I've spent a ton of time looking through settings, help files, and the forums and can't find any leads.

Anyone have a clue? Thanks.

As far as I have ever noticed, vim by default doesn't recognize the mouse. I've always used arrow keys, but I'm hardly a vi/vim expert.

I did find this about enabling mouse scrolling, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks, that worked for vim (using :set mouse=a). What about when piping something into less or using a manpage? Scrolling still doesn't work there. I'm guessing, I need to change some sort of keybinding or something, but haven't been able to figure it out. It's gnome-terminal that I'm using, but I'm not sure if that's the root source of the problem. Any ideas?
