Question Scrolling desktop, very annoying

I Have Corel Linux, and I have a Voodoo Banshee graphics card. When I first installed the OS, the graphics were all blurry and jagged and messed up, and it was in 1024x768 (thats actually the good part..i wanted that res) so I downloaded the newest version of XFree86, version 4.10. When I did this, it cleared up the graphics, but screwed up the resolution. The monitor menu says that the resolution is 640x480, no matter what resolution I put in the software settings. I can only see part of the screen at once...the whole desktop is so big, that I have to scroll around similar to how you would in starcraft or a similar game. I cannot see the panel or task bar at the same time that I am looking at my icons in the top left of my screen. I have to "fly" around the screen to get to each part. Please help!!!

first, you need to check your /etc/XF86Config file... it might also be named /etc/XF86Config-4.

in the "Device" section, you need to have this line for the driver:
Driver "tdfx"

there might also be a problem with the screen sizes specified in the "Monitor" section, but that's a bit more involved to fix.
