Why is my desktop scrolling?

Redhat 9

Why won't my desktop fill my monitor? I have to move the mouse around to see everything.
I tried putting it at a lower res and I keep getting a message about logging out and restarting x-server.

What is going on?

Total newb, yes, that's me...

I'm not sure about how RH is set up, but you need to find your XF86Config-4 (or maybe just XF86Config). It's probably in /etc/X11. Open it in an editor. There should be a section that lists your display modes, for 8, 16, 24 bits etc. There should be lists of resolutions underneath. You need to change these so that the higher ones come first, e.g. "1152x864" "1024x768" "800x600". That should fix it.

1) The display settings are already in that order

2) The word "Virtual" does not show up in the entire document

This is really killing me right now. I'm thinking this should be a quick and easy thing with a nice GUI button to push.
Thanks for the help guys. Know anyone that uses Redhat 9?
