scanner software for several 1000 slides

I plan to archive my slides in digital form. On LQ I found only very old threads on this subject. On other sites there is sort of a polite battle between "silverfast" (https://www.silverfast.com/get_demo/de.html) and "vuescan" (https://www.hamrick.com/). I would like to invite any comments about your experiences to digitize slides right here and what software you suggest to use, thank you .

seeing as they are both for Microsoft windows and i have not had a copy of win7 since 2012 .

there is no way to look at each and see what one will work best .

you might want to move this thread from the " linux software" to the " genrel" section .

Dia slides are small.
Isn't that really a question of a high quality, high dpi scanner, possibly with backlight - and not software?

I'd think that the way a slide scanner can connect to Linux is more important. Then, almost any image capture program would input the file. Everything from the office suites to vlc to dark table and others.

What you want to do with the images after you scan would be important too.

I visited the Vuescan website. They do offer a Linux version.

I've not used Vuescan, but I think you should give it a try (and let us know what you find). I have a high opinion its maintainer.

Back when I used Windows, his Vueprint was my go-to graphics viewing application and manipulation (resizing, etc.) program--light-weight and fast.
