samba and connecting to shares


ok heres my share in smb.conf

[home]
comment = slackcdrom
path = /mnt/home
valid users = root
public = yes
writable = yes
printable = no
creat mask = 0765

no heres my problem

i am in my browser i type smb://slack/ so far so good my home share comes up
i click on home and it asks for a username and pass
i type root then my password

then it just comes up again like it didn't work or something
i try it with no password same thing happens

ok now heres some thing else thats wacky
[cdrom]
comment = slackcdrom
path = /mnt/cdrom
valid users = root
public = yes
writable = yes
printable = no
creat mask = 0765

this on works when i type in root and my password

what is wrong? and why can't i get in my home dir
also when i click on my linux box on my WINDOWS machine its says i don't have access

samba and connecting to shares

What version of Windows are you using?
Are both systems using the same username/password combination
Did you use smbpasswd to copy your Linux username and password to Samba?
Also, root is not a good idea to use. I would suggest making a new username and password and giving it administrative access.
