Samba

ok quick question here...again!

I just downloaded the rpm version of samba for RedHat 9.0 and then i used the command:

rpm -Uvh samba-3.0.4-1_rh9.i386.prm

and it said preparing, ........

1: samba ########### [100%]
########### [100%]

does that mean that it is downloaded and installed or do i still have more configurations to do??

Help!

Thank you!

its installed, thought you need to configure it. /etc/samba/smb.conf.

If you are new to samba try using downloading and installing SWAT. SWAT is a web interface to samba.

no no, thats not what i meant.

there is a configuration file called /etc/samba/smb.conf you need to amend it to your configuration. its not a straight forward thing either, which is why i was suggesting that you use SWAT. Google for samba configuration. There is a TONNE of information on how to configure it.

you access swat by opening a browser and going to:

http://localhost:900

(i think its 900, its at the bottom of the swat man page)
