rndc: connect failed: connection refused

Just installed Fedora Core 2 without Firewall & DHCP. Coz already have RH8 using the DHCP & IPTABLES features.

But when I try to start the simple (default setting when installing FC2) named, its shown OK. But when I try to stop it, it shown 'rndc: connect failed: connection refused' and '[Fail]' too.

I look into the /var/named directory there is a chroot directory there. I search the web & this directory called 'jail' in bind.

I try all the possibility step to resolve the problem & I keep getting this error message 'rndc: connect failed: connection refused' appear on screen.

I try for 3days and still no luck to get the DNS up

Anyone come across this problem before? ( I saw lot of article mention about this but NO SOLUTION )

Thanks for all imput's

rndc connection failed

I'm experiencing the same problem. I'm looking in the areas of the rndc key, files, and making sure the keys are the same.

possible solution...

I found this on a Linux board;
---------------------------------------
This surfaced for me on a new Fedora FC2 install, and is a known bug.

See bugzilla.redhat.com, bug #124992. Essentially, in FC2 BIND is configured to look for config files in /var/named/chroot/etc, but the files created there are empty.

The actual files are in /etc

Copying them over seems to work, pending resolution of the bad install on caching-nameserver-7.2-12.

This is new in FC2. It was not present in RH9, or in FC1

A little googling shows that variants of this have been in other distributions.

hope this helps!
