resizing video in mplayer

I have mplayer running and it works great. The only thing is I can't make the video bigger or smaller. When I resize the window, the window resizes, but it just puts black space around the video. The default size is pretty small, like 200x200. I want to watch things in mplayer fullscreen. Anyone know what's going on?

I had this when I used binary packages for the installation. There is a configuration option and a related dependancy that covers this only I forget what it is. When I compiled from source, I got to install the most needed depandancies and specify the options I wanted in the makefile. See www.mjmwired.net and the fedors install notes for mplayer there. They convert nicely to slack - you just have to translate the redhatisms.

I was having a similar problem, I run "mplayer -h" and saw that pressing "f" while viewing the video you get full screen, you can try that, you can also use -x and -y when starting mplayer to set your resolution, but this wasn't too good and preferred using the "f" key.

Regards.

pass the -vo gl or -vo gl2 parameters on the command line when starting mplayer, or plain -vo to get more options and see which one works better for you.
