I've been trying to install Mandrake 8.1 on my laptop
I've managed to get X up and running in high res (1024 x 768 in 16bpp) using the fbdev server. My problem is now that my computer keeps on going into standby mode every 2 minutes. I've already tried disabling the apm in my kernel and recompiling, but that didn't help at all. I don't think it's just a problem with X because the same thing happens when I run linux in console mode
Any ideas?
My system specs:
Celeron 1.1GHz
SiS 630 chipset
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
I've got exactly the same problem as you with exactly the same chipset on my laptop (I'm also using Mandrake 8.1). Unfortunately, I can't even get the screen to 1024, so I'm stuck at 800 with a picture that trembles on top of it.
I tried installing Linux (Redhat 9) today the first time in my life, and i have to say that i have the same SiS Chip and the same problem, this is the only site i found about this "bug" .. so i would really appreciate help
