remove program from source?
In linux/unix I often install a lot of program from source with ./configure && make && make install or similar variation. Recently I installed xemacs, and decided that I didn't really like it, but couldn't figure out how to remove it (the binary of course, not the source). Anybody?

Have you tried going to the source directory and running 'make uninstall'?

Best way I know is to type "whereis xemacs" and see where all the stuff is, then delete it. This wont get rid of everything though unless it stores its stuff in separate directories. I think it only finds the binaries, man pages, and source for a command. Prolly gonna be a pain to get it all, unless there is an uninstallation script included in the source. You could updatedb and then locate any places with xemacs and delete them, but this is a bit risky because not every file with xemacs in it is necessarily going to be part of xemacs, you could delete something thats part of another program if you dont pay attention.

It won't help immediately, but you might want to look into Checkinstall. It replaces the make install step and can create .rpm, .deb or .tgz packages that you can install and uninstall with your normal package tools.
