Redhat freezing when "scanning for new hardware"

I'm an utter newbie, so please bear with me.
I've installed the lastest version of Redhat, and it was running fine for a week or so before it crashed (don't know why or what happened, only that I came home one evening and the machine simply wouldn't respond.) When I try to re-boot it, it freezes at the "scanning for new hardware" phase.
Any suggestions would be very welcomed.

Boot into single user mode.

If you have a grub bootloader just follow the help instructions on screen when the system boots up.
I hope its e to edit the boot time arguments and a "single" has to be added after bootup arguments.[Just check some grub manual as to how to get into single user mode]

After you boot into single usermode type

ntsysv --level 5

Here disable kudzu.

Reboot the system and get into linux.

After that try running kudzu or check /var/log/messages for the cause of hang.

Cheers

It's a good idea to let kudzu grind away for a few minutes, to start with. (Be sure that you booted the computer from a "power off" state.)

If it still hoses up, there could be a problem in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf. (Note: consult man kudzu to confirm the location of this directory.)

Emptying the contents of this directory will force kudzu to rebuild it, which I presume it was able to do successfully before.

Then... I'd remove kudzu from the normal startup at all runlevels, because you really don't need to keep running it every time. Only when, and if, you actually add or remove hardware. You can run it (as root) from the command-line.
