RedHat 9.0 Make Error

Hello!

I am trying to install strace-4.2 on my RedHat 9.0 machine and I get an error that says:

make: *** [file.o] Error 1

I similarily get this error when trying to install another application, does anyone know what this means?

Thanks!

Natasha

Yes, more details please ... the " make: *** [file.o] Error 1 "
is the last line of the errors ...
Please show the lines, where the errors begin,
and the e.g. 5 lines before that.

Redhat 9 : obsoleted year 2004. ( Released in 2002.)
'strace-4.2' much older ?, this is a patch from 2000 :

Did you run ./configure?

Assuming you did; you are probably using versions of the dependencies that are so much older than what strace needs that it MAY not be able to handle it. Since all support for RH9 was dropped in 2003 (no official updates of any kind since then) you are going to run into this kind of issue a lot. On top of that since so few people are willing to run an unsupported distro, you are going to have a tough time finding very many people who have current knowledge of that distro. Just to give you an idea of how far you are behind, after RH9 Red Hat switched to the RHEL (Red Hat Enterprise Linux) naming system. Each version of RHEL is supported for five years, and they are currently on RHEL5.3. If you cannot afford the RHEL license (required to get updates) you can look at Centos. Centos is RHEL with the logos removed. It is built from the same source code(sans logos) as RHEL. It has a five year (plus) support life and is free to download/update.

Edit: I guess strace is older than I thought.
